As you’ve probably guessed I’m now in Disney World and I’ve had a busy few days.
We landed in Orlando on Saturday afternoon and caught the Magical Express which took us to our Disney hotel which is where we stayed for a couple of nights. Once we arrived at Port Orleans Riverside we checked in a got our magic bands! Unfortunately it was raining when we got there and our room was on the complete opposite side of the resort to the reception. So we had to lug our overweight suitcases across the hotel in the rain. When we got the our room though the rain came down even harder so luckily it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.
So we dropped off our bags, got changed then decided to head to Disney Springs to get something to eat. Our room was right by one of the bus stops so we just had a quick walk. We then went straight to Wolfgang Pucks for dinner and it was freezing because we were soaking wet and the air con inside just made it even worse. After we ate we had look round some of the shops including World of Disney and it was pretty hard not to buy anything until we get our Cast Discount.
It was great fun walking round Disney Springs but I was actually shivering which is not what we were expecting from our first night in sunny Florida!
We then got the bus back to Port Orleans and went to sleep. Originally we were going to go and watch Happily Ever After, the new firework show in Magic Kingdom, from the Polynesian Resort but we didn’t have enough time to get there.
The next morning we had a breakfast reservation at 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian Resort, so we got the bus to Magic Kingdom and then the boat across the Seven Seas Lagoon to the hotel. It was a bit depressing being so close to Magic Kingdom and not being able to go in as we don’t have our staff passes yet.
Breakfast was great as we got to meet Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter. I also got to eat my first Micky Waffle of the summer. We then did a bit of resort hopping around the monorail hotels and then headed to Blizzard Beach to do crazy golf as we’d been given free tickets by the hotel!
Crazy golf was really fun and we did the Summerland course which is themed around Christmas but in the summer.
We then went back to the hotel and had a look around and went for a swim in the pool which was right by our room!
After swimming we got ready to head out to go watch Happily Ever After, this time we got the boat from the hotel into Disney Springs which is really nice, then the bus to the Polynesian. It was great to finally see the new firework show but I can’t wait to actually see it in the park and see all the projections on the castle.
The next morning was our check in day at our Disney Housing! So we got a taxi from the hotel and arrived at Chatham Square. Check in was really quick and simple, we just had to show our arrival itinerary and we got given our program guide and our housing ID.
We found out that we had got given our top choice for accommodation and the four of us were going to be roommates! In our apartment there are 7 British girls and 1 American so we get a little bit of ‘cultural exchange’. The location of our apartment is the best because we’re right by the swimming pool, laundry area, the buses and it’s on the ground floor as well, so we didn’t have to lug our suitcases up any more stairs!
After unpacking everything we then decided to go do our first Walmart shop which was a bit agonising as it’s MASSIVE! We pretty much went up and down all the aisles trying to find what we wanted. Luckily our American roommate has her car so she was able to drive some of us and her car boot was packed full of Walmart bags. The other half of us got an Uber and that was jammed full of bags as well. Even then we’ve still found we haven’t got everything we need, like baking trays which means we can’t actually cook any of the chips and chicken nuggets that we all bought.
Then as a flat we all went to Disney Springs for the evening to look around and get something to eat!
So for the next few days I’ve got a load of meetings and things before I get my cast member pass to get into the parks. I might be able to go to Universal Studios tomorrow afternoon to get my Annual Pass but I’ll see what happens.
